CONSTRUCTION

There are some very fine blogs describing converting a Porsche 914 to an electric vehicle; this isn't one of them. I really have to commend the guys that fully documented their progress. I referred to their blogs often. I didn't match that level of documentation but I did take a few pictures along the way.

Donor Vehicle

My daughter loves it, and calls it our "race car". It's the first time she's ever been able to sit in a front seat.

Conversion started

Inside my cozy, carpeted garage, engine and fuel tank removed, it will stay here until complete.

Helper

My 4 yr old daughter, eager to turn a wrench, standing in the original engine compartment, the future home of batteries.

Cargo Trunk... BEFORE

Cargo Trunk... AFTER

Cleaned up rust, painted, and installed the electric motor controller. The rest of this space is available for cargo.

Motor

AC24LS electric motor, after I've installed the orig Porsce flywheel and clutch.

Motor / Tranny

Electric motor mated to the original transmission and engine mount bar, ready to install in car.

Motor Installed

Rachel posing with the latest fruits of our efforts, the Motor & Transmission installed in the car.

Motor Installed

Another view of motor, supported with original engine mount.

Overview

Current state of the car on March 15, getting ready to install new rear suspension.

New tranny mounts

I installed WEVO semi-solid transmission mounts. Also shown is the new electronic speedo sender.

Pickup batteries

I picked up the 18, 8V batteries, which weigh 1100 pounds.

9 in front

Engine compartment

The original engine compartment, where all the low voltage wiring is made in the black boxes. This space will be filled with batteries.

9 batteries in back

Online

The system is online, at 152 VDC.

Dash

I still need to wire up the instruments.

It's Alive!

See, I'm on the road
